01 / ABOUT WHY WE ARE BUILDING CODELAB INDEPENDENTLY MADE

Our point of view

Interviews should reveal
how people think
not how they perform.

THE ORIGIN
02 / 2026

Codelab began with a simple frustration: technical interviews rarely feel like engineering.

Candidates are asked to solve unfamiliar problems in unfamiliar tools, while interviewers juggle video calls, shared documents, and feedback forms. Too much energy goes into operating the interview and too little goes into the conversation.

We are building a calmer alternative—a shared place where both people can focus on the code, ask good questions, and understand how a solution takes shape.

01

Tools should disappear.

The environment should support the conversation without becoming part of the challenge.

02

Real work creates real signal.

Files, tests, terminals, and iteration reveal more than puzzles performed on a blank canvas.

03

Fairness needs structure.

Consistency gives candidates an equal opportunity without turning interviewers into robots.

04

Hiring is a human decision.

Software can organize evidence. It should never replace judgment, curiosity, or empathy.
